TETANUS/DIPTHERIA COMBINED
If there is a chance you could suffer a “dirty” wound - make sure you have had a booster in the
last 5 years. Otherwise, have a booster if you have not had one in the last 10 years.
POLIO ORAL SABIN
Two drops are required every 10 years
HEPATITIS A & B
A combined vaccine “Twinrix” is now available. You require 3 injections over a 6 month time frame
to have lifetime coverage. Individual Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B vaccine boosters can also be
given.
MEASLES /MUMPS /RUBELLA
Children are now adequately vaccinated during childhood. 18 - 40 year old people may require a
booster.
MENINGOCOCCAL
The ACW135 Y vaccine covers against 4 strains of the virus and requires a booster every 3 years.
The A strain is more prevalent overseas - the C strain in Australia. The new C strain only
vaccines are promoted as a once only lifetime vaccine.
INFLUENZA
A new influenza vaccine is made each year - specific to the strains causing problems
overseas at the time. The new vaccines are distributed around the end of February each year.
CHICKEN POX
Vaccination should be considered if you have never had the disease.. One injection is required
under 13 year old. Two injections if over 13 years old 1 - 2 months apart.
